Healthcare Reform
A simple explanation of complicated new laws.
Healthcare Reform is the government’s new set of laws under the Affordable Care Act. These laws have spurred some rapid changes in the health care industry, making it even more important to stay up to date on recent health news. We’re here to help make it simple for you. This is what you need to know about health care reform and current health insurance news:
- There are no more lifetime limits on health care coverage.
- Young adults up to age 26 can stay on their parent’s health care plan.
- Preventive services are now free, with no co-pays, no co-insurance and no deductibles.
- The Minimum Loss Ratio (MLR) mandates that for every $1 in premium collected, the medical insurance company has to pay out $.80 in medical claims. If they don’t meet this requirement, then you get a rebate check in the mail!
- Children can no longer be denied healthcare coverage due to pre-existing conditions.
- Seniors on Medicare receive 50% discounts on brand name drugs.
- Tax credits are available for small businesses that provide health insurance for employees.
